Psalm 16.11 (nkjv) – You will show me the path of life. In Your presence is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
It is important to spend time in the presence of God. Without God where will we be? God is our refuge, our ever-present help in trouble. The problem with our society today is this: technology, technology, the humbug of technology glowing everywhere. Distraction. And what is the distraction? The distraction is this: technology. Technology. TEchnology. TEChnology. TECHnology. TECHNology. T E C H N O L O G Y. I guess you understand my gist. We have so many distractions, that we no longer find the time, or are willing to find the time to spend with the Lord. Everything else seems to be more important. Except God of course.
I learnt quickly that God is important especially when I plummeted into my wilderness hollow and knew that there was no way up or out except for trusting that the Lord will see me through. Why? Because nothing else seemed to help? Nothing else seemed to work. There was no quick fix to what I was facing. So, when I was pregnant with my son, the only option I had was to trust that God will provide for my every need. That He will look after my son’s needs. Because I simply was powerless to find a quick-fix solution which we so often want to have.
So, while I lived in the shelter, I developed a daily and godly habit of reading the bible, spending time in the presence of the Lord, and praying to the Lord. My prayer time would often be first thing in the morning, and then throughout the day as the Holy Spirit leads. I also prayed often for the Holy Spirit to guide me throughout the day. To help me face whatever lay before me, trusting that the Holy Spirit will guide me. Living by faith, and believing that the Lord will provide for me. It was a child-like faith. But nonetheless a strong faith because I knew that this was the only way forward for my life.
I want to encourage you to develop a good habit of spending an hour a day in the presence of God. As you set a regular daily time aside with God, you will see how God is growing you spiritually, and helping you to overcome any issue that you face that day. What you feed grows. What you don’t feed dies.
The presence of God has been such a huge blessing in my life. It was a struggle in the beginning to establish a habit to read and spend time in the presence of the Lord, because everything else seemed of higher importance. But in fact, God is my number 1 priority. The enemy will resist you on this and distract you with everything known to mankind, particularly technology. But don’t let it deter you. Keep persevering and you will see the result. The Lord hears our prayers and is near to those who call upon his name. Hallelujah.
