Embracing Change: Trusting God in Life Transitions

God is everywhere. He is alive. He is here. Very much present in our lives. We can feel His tangible presence all around us. He permeates not just here but all over the world. And we want to serve Him to the best of our abilities. Moving to Germany was the easy part. It is the transition that was challenging. Sometimes we expect things to happen instantly. And when it doesn’t happen instantly – we wonder and question God. Where is God in all of this.

Many of my friends in England asked me how did we manage to move to Germany? How did we make the desire of moving closer to home to be a reality rather than just a dream. When I think and reflect over the last eight months and the process before moving; I am amazed at how far we have come. I have to be honest we would not have been able to achieve this without the help of our Father God, and the family that God placed around us. We are forever grateful to them for their generosity and love towards us, and acceptance into their family.

It feels like wherever we go, we have family. This is true whether we are in Germany, England, Belgium, Netherlands, Slovakia, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand. We have a home everywhere. Isn’t this amazing? To be a part of the family of God but also the family that God has chosen for us whether it is biological or strangers becoming family.

For us it took a step of courage to leave our comforts behind. I am reminded of Peter when Jesus asks him to step out of the boat (Matthew 14:22-33). The process for my husband and I was letting go of what we knew. Are we going to trust God to show us the way and rely on Him completely to guide us?

We learned to trust God better. We stopped relying on ourselves so much. Instead, we relied more on our Heavenly Father to show us the way forward. It was sometimes a battle between the flesh and the spirit. But ultimately it was really about finding freedom in Christ. God is molding us into who He wants us to become. Sometimes, this process is not easy. It is easier to resist it sometimes. This is where a bucket load of grace and patience comes in. We need it to be able to move forward into what God desires us to do with our lives.

We need to learn not to resist change. It is easier to stay put rather than let change occur. A lot of people I’ve met along the way are frightened of change. Change should be embraced. If change cannot happen how are we to move forward with life? How are we to become who God wants us to become? I feel that change should be seen in a positive way rather than in a negative light. Because without change, hope is lacking. Change ignites hope. Hope ignites faith.
